Ondřej Belica is a Prague-based cinematographer. He completed his Master’s studies at FAMU in 2014 and debuted with the feature film Prach (Dust of the Ground), directed by his longtime collaborator Vít Zapletal, which was selected for the official program of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. In Nepal, he shot the feature Suntali (2014), which earned him the Best Cinematography Award from the Nepali Film Critics Society. He later completed the feature documentary Central Bus Station with director Tomáš Elšík recognised by Czech Society of Cinematographers as Best documentary in 2018.
He has collaborated extensively with director György Kristóf on short films such as 2MM (2010) and Úsvit (2011), the latter winning Best Cinematography at the Kamera OKO festival as well as the Kodak Young Cinematographers Award. With Beijing-based Ran Li, he shot the short Lucie (2015), which was nominated for Best Cinematography at the New Era Film Festival in Beijing. More recently, he was nominated for a Czech Lion for the television miniseries Metoda Markovič: Hojer, which went on to win Best TV Series Cinematography at the Society of Czech Cinematographer (AČK).
He is currently in preproduction on the feature Sršen v láhvi, again with Vít Zapletal. In addition to his cinematography work, he focuses on teaching and research. He successfully defended his PhD thesis on mesopic vision and film stylization at FAMU in 2024.
Ondřej has been a member of the Czech Society of Cinematographers since 2010 and currently serves as its vicepresident.
